Introduction
India celebrates three major national festivals namely Republic Day, Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti. Gandhi Jayanti is the festival which is celebrated on 2nd of October every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, one of the great freedom fighters of India who experimented to fight against Britishers during Indian freedom struggle with his non-violence policies. He was a believer of non violence and always said that there is no issue in the world which could not be solved with non violence. Gandhi Jayanti : The Birth of a Leader
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born on 2nd October, 1869 at Porbandar, Gujarat. His father’s name was Karamchand Gandhi who was the Chief Minister of Porbandar at that time and his mother Putlibai was a religious lady and a housewife.
Gandhi did not believe in violence and his all the movements against the Britishers were completely non-violent and peaceful. He always conducted peaceful marches and ‘dharnas’ to keep his views and never involved in any kind of violent disputes. His non-violence ideologies were highly applauded by the international audience which also highlighted him on the international platforms.
Apart from independence struggle he was was also involved in bringing changes in the society and uprooting various social evils like untouchability, improving the economic conditions of the backward classes etc.
His movements and marches alongside other freedom struggle from our great freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh, Chandrasekhar Azad, Subhas Chandra Bose and various uncountable and unnamed sacrifices of our freedom fighters helped India gain independence on 15th August, 1947.

Mahatma Gandhi and Indian Freedom Struggle
Mahatma Gandhi was involved in the Indian freedom struggle after his arrival from South Africa where he took part in various civil rights movements. He took the leadership of the National Congress and demanded complete independence (purn swaraj) for India.
He carried out various movements namely Champaran Agitations, Kheda Agitations, Khilafat Movement, Non-Cooperation movement, Salt March, Quit India Movement etc against the harsh policies of British Government and demanded that Britishers should quit India and declare it as a independent nation.
Amid the agony faced by India’s intense freedom struggle and international pressure after the Second World War, Britishers were forced to quit India and declare it as an independent nation on 15th August, 1947.

Gandhi Jayanti 2019 was celebrated on 2nd October, 2019 with great patriotism and enthusiasm. The 2019 Gandhi Jayanti was the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi which was celebrated with magnificent events across the country.
The event was also celebrated on various international platforms where people commemorated the great ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi and pledged to follow his teachings professed by him. Various marches and cycle rallies were also conducted in various parts of the world to celebrate this great day.
