Introduction

Karwa Chauth is the Hindu festival which is celebrated by the married women for the health and longevity of their husband. This festival celebrates the sacred bond of love shared between wife and husband. In India, marriage is the pious bond for a lifetime between a man and a woman and Karwa Chauth is the the day which values this sacred relationship between wife and husband.  

How Karwa Chauth is celebrated

On the day of Karwa Chauth, the married women get up early in the morning before sunrise and get ready for the festival. They have the ‘sargi’ which is the special dish generally prepared by the mother in law. After having the ‘sargi’ the women observe the whole day long fast from dawn to dusk without having a single drop of water.

In the evening, they offer prayers to Lord Shiva and his family and follow the strict rituals. The day long fast is only broken after seeing the moon by the hands of their husband.
