Introduction


Constitution is the one of the most important document for a country to run and progress. It is the fundamental principle or precedent which helps to run a state. Republic Day is the one of the most significant event in the Indian history which marks the remembrance of the day when Indian constitution came into force. This was a great day which made India a democratic and republic country and gave the power to elect the government in the hands of its citizen.

Why Do We Celebrate Republic Day


India got its freedom on 15th August, 1947 after hundreds of years of the British rule. It was the call of the time that it should have its own constitution so that it could help the country for its proper functionality and development.

The responsibility to draft the constitution for India was given to Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and members of Constitution Drafting Committee. After the rigorous hard work the constitution was prepared and was adopted on 26th November, 1949 and after two months it came into force on 26th January, 1950.

It was the great day in the Indian history as it gave India a complete independent ('purn swaraj') and sovereign status. The constitution of India gave the power to elect the government in the hands of its citizen which works for the welfare and development of its citizen and the country. It made India as world largest democracy where the government is of the people, by the people and for the people.

How is Republic Day Celebrated


Republic Day is celebrated across every corner of the country with great joy and enthusiasm. The ceremony get started by hoisting of the Indian National Flag in schools, colleges, offices etc. followed by singing of the National Anthem. Various cultural programs are also organized which focuses on Great Indian Freedom Struggle.

The main celebration of the Republic Day takes place at Rajpath, New Delhi where the Honorable President of India unfurls the flag in the presence of an esteemed chief guest and other dignitaries. After the flag hoisting, the three regiments on Indian defense forces march on the Rajpath saluting the President.

The parade also showcases the defense capability of the country depicting the most modern arms and ammunition of the country. All the states also showcase their cultural heritage through various tableaux in the parade accompanied by folk dance and songs.

On 29th January, the Beating the Retreat ceremony is organized at Vijay Chowk which marks the official closing of the Republic Day celebration. The ceremony has an spectacular performances from all the bands of the three Indian Defense forces which makes the evening an unforgettable experience throughout.

What is the Importance of Republic Day


Republic Day and all the three national festivals of India play an important role in the life of every citizen of the country. It helps us to revisit our great past and introduces the young generation to the great history of India and Indian freedom struggle.
